This beta patch has been made to address two specific issues:

1. Long pauses while playing with sound enabled using a motherboard with an Intel i845 or i850 chipset with 100mhz front side bus

2. Crashing at main menu (the one with new game, load game, options) with a Radeon 9600

First, download both of these files and put them directly into your KotOR directory
(C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\SWKotOR by default)

Do NOT unzip the files.

Then, either run swupdate.exe and click update, or use the update button on the launcher.

This will update you to 1.01 In order to go back to the retail version of 1.00 simply run the updater again.

You MUST revert back to 1.00 before you will be able to install the final version of the patch.

Now, if you do not have a Radeon 9600, you may want to click configure from the launcher, and turn Hardware

Mouse cursor back on. In order to fix the 9600 issue, hardware mouse cursor had to be turned off.

Again, if you do not have a Radeon 9600, you can turn hardware mouse cursor back on.

If you DO have a Radeon 9600, you must keep hardware mouse cursor off. The cursor will seem quite slow on the main menu, but will be fine (and not flickering) in game. You do not need to adjust the acceleration setting in the ATI control panel and can turn it back up if you had previously turned it down.

Please use this thread to report your results. Any posts that are not related to these two specific issues will be removed from this thread.

Since this is a BETA patch, you should only install it if you are having one of the two issues described.

It works. Here's what I can see so far.

I845 Chipset here. - How could I forget that?

Intro menu is laggy.
Minor artifacts with mouse cursor and doors.
Odd artifacts on some chromed surfaces, like sith troopers. Sometimes yellow to green flickers.
Sound is okay, no more lag outs or hangs.

Since you don't have a Radeon, you should try turning the Hardware Mouse back on in the Config program.

Doesn't fix the SecuROM "Spinning CD of Doom"

.... but I'll uninstall my cd image software and try again later.

I only do what I do because I have to.

Sorry, but you will have to contact LucasArts about that specific issue.

Yup that worked, don't mind the lack of sleep here. Well I flipped it back on. The mouse artifacts, and door artifacts are gone as well. I noticed that there is a jerkiness to it now. Almost like a slight stutter all the time, rather then the sudden fancies of flight my character used to have she's atleast moveable.

I'm not sure if I can describe it any better then that.

wow, i gotta say i'm impressed The game was just released day before yesterday and there's already a beta patch!!! Guess that's why biowares up there among the best I mean, the game should'nt have had the probs to begin with,:look: but that's some of the fastest customer care attention I've ever seen. Hey, gotta give credit where it's due.shades:

PS so are u guys gonna fix that KOTOR forcing refresh rate and crashing if other programs, including the ATI control panel, are forcing a similar refresh rate???? Please, please, please tell me if u guys are even considering that cause the winxp refresh rate bug is not fixable with KOTOR running.

Well, that doesn't fix my problem but I installed it anyway.

Good Thing: It removed the severe game lag I was getting.

Bad Thing: I can only play the game if I keep the movies turned off.

Can someone fix that? Cause it's kind of annoying not knowing what the hell is going on.

[Edit: Also, the main menu, character creation, and Status screen where you see your force aligment and crap is all messed up too. It's all small and huddled in the upper right corner of the screen, it's not that big of a problem but it would be nice if you guys could fix that as well.]

Yes, let me stress again. If you do not have a Radeon 9600, you should re enable hardware mouse cursor though the SWConfig Utility (click on Configure from the launcher).

It was forced off for all to ensure Radeon 9600 users were not experiencing a crash.

well, i installed the beta patch, cranked up hardware acceleration to full (in Windows), disabled hardware mouse, started the game ...... and my 9600 did not freeze, the game played a lot better than before. no twitchy cursor, no stuttering or choppiness. a lot better than before

For Dave: If that was directed at me, (which I think it was, either way I'm an idiot) I dont have the Radeon 9600. I have a i845 and I still can't play the game because of the problems I listed.

Pirate, you have to go into the 'configure' menu when you first click on your KOTOR icon and enable hardware mouse cursor if you don't have a 9600.
